Program description	Keys for Life is an award winning driver safety education program. Keys for Life Plus is a more in-depth approach to the Keys for Life Pre-driver Education program. It includes studying the area of road safety and driver education for a longer period (40 lessons), covering all areas of the Keys for Life Teacher Resources as well as ‘real world’ learning experiences where vehicles are used for some of the learning experiences (eg investigating the engine and cabin of the car, car maintenance and looking at the road environement. Students also explore the Safer System and the role of individuals, the community, workplaces, government, manufacturing and private enterprise in reducing the road toll. This endorsed program is for Year 10/11 students. Participating students start their licence at school while being taught about the importance of driving practice, gaining a licence, safer driving and safer cars, first aid, insurance, planning and decision making. Students passing the theory test at school are exempt from the Test and fee at a licensing centre. The resource includes Department of Transport Test materials and a teacher kit (with learning/assessment activities, student workbooks, DVDs, posters, parent material and DriveSafe book). It has 4 components: Teacher PD (to access student and test materials); Implementation (at school); Parent seminar (RAC and SDERA presentation at schools); and the Learner driver theory test (at school). Students must participate in at least 80% of the lessons, and complete and submit a student journal (print or online version) to be eligible to sit the Theory Test at school.
